Just A Tree

I have guarded this forest
For so so many years
I have witnessed peace and unrest
Seen laughter and tears

Children have climbed in my branches
Lovers have kissed under my leaves
After exchanging adoring glances
My branches have even hidden thieves

History has walked past me
Never realising I am watching
As to them I am just a tree
But I heard and saw everything

I will still be here
Standing guard for many more years
I will get even older, I will never disappear
But when I think about the future I have fears.
