Can I Have This Dance

The sun was dying, day as over
Trees sighed with a soft breeze
Birds circled seeking a place to rest
And I said can I have this dance please

Glimpses of the sunset through leaves
Strange marriages of colours in the trees
As lanterns were hung and lit
And I said can I have this dance please

Every minute the sun died another inch
As tables were set with wine and cheese
It was nearly time for the night
And I said can I have this dance please

The night finally took the day
There was a sense of calm and ease
As the forest people came out to play
And I said can I have this dance please.
