We Were Swans

Our love was devout, steadfast and true
Like swans on a lake, we swam as two
Loyal and pure, in a dance so divine
Our hearts intertwined like stars that align

We were a constellation, our own Cygrus bright
Guiding each other though the darkest night
In the heavens, we carved out our space
A bond so unbreakable, nothing could erase

But life, it is cruel, like a thief in the night
It took you away, stole our shared light
Now I am adrift, in the echoes of blue
A swan all alone, in a lake meant for two

The water’s still surface reflects only me
But where are you now, the half that made we?
The stars so distant, our Cygnus no more
And I float in the silence where love was before

Yet in each ripple, in every night sky
I search for your presence, though you’ve said goodbye
For though you are gone, and I’m all alone
In my heart, our love will forever be known.
