Twilight’s Light

In a market town on a rainy evening
The sky is ever changing
As orange and yellow blend
And evening comes and rain decends

The road, a mirror, washed and shining
Reflecting twilight’s light
And as the day retreats
Puddle pools form at my feet

A lone car approaches, headlight pale
Cutting softly into the twilight
Casting shadows on house walls
As the rain falls and night calls

A figure, hand deep in pockets
Walk through the damp air, past quiet homes
With windows shut and dark
No sounds. Not even a dog’s bark

The silent houses are a peace
Bathed in slow changing colours
The market town holds its breath, streets asleep
As the night comes and the clouds weep.
