If only they could talk
What they have seen and heard
Would we get a shock
Would we believe a word
Queens and Kings have walked
Among them in their splendour
Did they hear secrets being unlocked
Were the words angry or tender
Didn’t we all walk in the wood
With our sweetheart beside us
Private moments that felt so good
And no one could make a fuss
Trees hold our soul
They give us shade and shelter
But the human race is on parole
As we cut them down and the planet swelters.
