We should be having sweltering summer days
A gift from heaven above
A sun’s blaze that leaves us in a daze
Yet we get heavy summer rain
Clouds gather and darken the skies
Droplets form, starting to tease
Then a symphony of sound begins to rise
As raindrops descend in torrents
Heavy summer rain spoils a tranquil day
We all dash for cover
Children cease to play
And we all pray for it to cease
The sun briefly returns, rain departs
But the sky says it will be back
To again seep into our hearts
And we long for sweltering summer days.
