Sunflowers in the Fireplace

In the fireplace the sunflowers stand tall
Echoes of us in their hearts
Long days, longer nights, in your gentle grace
Your smile, a beacon, lighting up the place

Like sunflowers reaching for the morning sun
Your laughter filled a room, our hearts together
Now only shadows exist, where your light shone
In the fireplace memories are grown

Sunflowers, bright in their silent bloom
Drawing out my heart, my soul
Each petal whispers of moments we shared
Of love and happiness, of how much we shared

But time, relentless, broke us apart
Leaving behind night in place of day
The sunflowers bend as if they mourn
For the warmth and joy that cannot return

Now alone, I look at such a wonder
I remember love that time can’t erase
The sunflowers in the fireplace, glowing bright
Are parts of us from the still of the night.
