As the Sun Sinks

As the sun sinks low in the western sky
Clouds and trees reflect on still water
I know night is soon, the world falls asleep
But my restless mind, wrapped in shadows, will weep

Night now when I close my eyes, I see you
And dreams are of days when joy was everywhere
Before pain carved lines in my soul
Before lose took its bitter toll

Morning breaks, the mirror sighs
As sad, broken eyes tell a story
I walk the city streets always alone
You are everywhere, yet gone, unknown

When will my heart accept the truth
That you, my dearest love, are lost to me forever
You are a ghost, that lingers, a haunting song
On when will my heart know you are gone?

Will it be a day when the sun sinks low in the western sky
And clouds and trees reflect on still water.
