Coffee Shops

Coffee shops are strange places
You never look at others faces
All engrossed with something, even loneliness
Rarely any signs of tenderness

We sit with strangers, a couple of words
Dare you talk about anything, maybe birds
But courage fails you
Drink your coffee, watch the queue

Coffee mornings are social events
Often held in tents
People mix, people chat
Many ladies even wear a hat

But no mixing, no chatting
Not even chanting or ranting
Coffee shops are uncool
They are just stations to pick up fuel.
