A Right of Way

The path was straight and true
Sturdy fencing marking a route
That is as old as history
But still here for me and you

A right of way
From an era long gone
You can but wonder how many feet
Have travelled this path everyday

Did people stop and talk
Or was everyone hurrying
Or maybe it was a place
For lovers to walk

The path knows our past
What tales could it tell
About our ancestors, our history
And about how time just goes so fast.
