With a heavy heart I leave
The Atlantic pearl surrounded by sea
And even after twenty years I grieve
As paradise disappears behind
Magnificent cliffs and valleys of green
All highlighting the wonder of nature
This island can make you feel serene
As it draws you into its embrace
Madeira, an island that stole my heart
A people that makes you welcome
And as I prepare to depart
I start to plan my return.
