Extremism

In the dark shadows of society
Fractured lines open and lie bare
Extremism appropriates the sky and fills the air
Love and tolerance, once bright, now scarce and rare

Within many hearts seeds of hatred grow
The roots of division become entrenched
In every creed, in every whispered prayer
Lies echoes of mistrust, of anger laid bare

Extremism begets extremism in a vicious dance
And when minds are closed, good hearts stand alone and cry
In every corner, in every silent plea
Desperation builds and swells, consuming harmony

Yet, in this bleak and somber darkness
A glimmer is there, a beacon, a light
For love, though ridiculed and tested, refuses to fade
Its gentle message, amidst chaos, is displayed

Within fractured hearts, love seeks to find away
To bridge the chasm, to heal, to mend
In tolerance, a strength that can endure
Offers a hand of peace, steadfast and pure

So, let good people rise against the tide of hate
With love and peace as their guide
For in the unity of hearts that are free
Lies the hope to mend our fractured society.
