Mighty No More

By the side of a country lane
Its branches reached for the sky
A mighty tree full of grandeur
That for ages stood tall and high

But, alas came the chainsaw’s cruel blow
With a thunderous crack it fell to the ground
Echoes of sorrow, whispers of woe
Rang out for a loss so profound

The towering giant now lies quiet
Each limb, once might, now in parts
Scattered by the side of a country lane
Touching all who pass in their hearts

Yet, even in death, the tree’s spirit will live on
From its parts new life will spring
Its timber will create wonders
A chair, a table, a child’s swing

So, while be sad for the loss
While the might tree is no more
In nature’s cycle there is always worth
And the tree’s legacy will endure forevermore.
