The Buttercross

A building from the 19th century still stands tall
Its classic stone pillars provided a covered open-air space
It was a place for one and all
And for farmers’ wives it was their base

Market Drayton Buttercross was a trading post
For the sale of butter and dairy produce
It gave this market town a boast
And it’s rumoured you could even buy a goose

Now in the 21st century the wheel has turned
The Buttercross now is a centre of craft and art
With its Artisan Market where livings are earned
As residents buy goods that touch their heart.
